Schlapp, however, has not lost sight of her role. Her main area of focus has included issues like trade, school safety and the opioid epidemic. The current position she holds doesn't require many interactions with reporters. In March, she got some media attention when her name was mentioned as a possible candidate to succeed Hope Hicks in the role of director of communications. There's been some tense fights. Allies to Schlapp as well as Tony Sayegh who is another candidate for the position have been fighting over the media. Schlapp stated that, after the Washington Examiner had published an piece that contained negative remarks about Sayegh's personality, she contacted Sayegh for a private conversation.
